What a great night it was last night at Vancouver’s University Golf Club for the Kitsilano Chamber of Commerce Awards Dinner. This is the 7th year of the event, which celebrates the achievements of businesses and entrepreneurs on Vancouver’s West Side; Molson Coors Canada is a proud member of the Kitsilano Chamber of Commerce.
At last year’s dinner, we were honoured to have been chosen as Business of the Year for our contributions to the local community. At this year’s awards dinner, Molson Coors was chosen by the Chamber as one of the three finalists for Green Business of the Year, a new category this year. The criteria for nomination for this award is that the business “has taken a leadership role or have substantial involvement in initiatives that have a positive impact on green living, sustainable best practices, energy conservation and environmental benefit”. This is certainly true of our Vancouver brewery.
Since 2004, at the Vancouver brewery, we have reduced water and electricity use by an amazing 29%. Put another way, in 2004 it took 7.5 cans of water to make 1 can of beer. Now it takes 5.1 cans of water to make one can of beer – quite an accomplishment by our committed and focused Vancouver team!
