Molson was proud to be part of a fantastic event in Edmonton earlier this week. We were one of the major sponsors of the Mayor’s Celebration of the Arts, an event that celebrated and recognized some of the stars of the Edmonton arts community. Over 1400 people packed the beautiful Winspear theatre for a night of celebration and entertainment. Samantha Schultz, the Brian Webb Dance Company, the Red Power Squad and the Edmonton Opera were just some of the performers who wowed the crowd. The proceeds from the event are going to Arts on the Ave, a community based, grassroots initiative engaged in developing 118th Avenue as a community arts centre. The coalition is comprised of performance artists, theatre and dance, musicians, visual artists and artisans who live and work in the area and want to celebrate their community.

Attendees at the event included the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Norman Kwong, the Premier of Alberta Ed Stelmach, the Minister of Culture Lindsay Blackett, and of course, the Mayor of Edmonton Stephen Mandel.

Rick Tousaw, Area Vice President in Western Canada presented the Molson Award for Excellence in Artistic Direction to winner Dana Andersen, who won the award for his leadership, innovation and commitment to the Die-Nasty improv group and Edmonton’s comedy community.

This was a very fun event to be a part of – Molson congratulates Dana and all of the nominees and winners!

Molson supports Edmonton’s Arts Community

We had a great turnout at Edmonton’s City Hall yesterday for a press conference with Mayor Stephen Mandel who, along with representatives from the major sponsors, announced the nominees for the various awards for the Mayor’s Celebration of the Arts, which is being held at the beautiful Winspear Centre on April 7th. Molson is proud to be sponsoring the Molson Award for Excellence in Artistic Direction, which recognizes an individual who has demonstrated their commitment to the arts by challenging the current notion of arts and advancing the boundaries of artistic direction. The nominees for this award are Dana Andersen, Danielle LaBrie, John Kirkpatrick and Tom McFall. All of the nominees have contributed greatly to and helped shine a spotlight on the progressive and visionary Edmonton arts community.  We look forward to announcing, and celebrating with, the winner of the Molson Award for Excellence in Artistic Direction on April 7th.
