Chair Aware 2010 Logo

Pretty excited to announced this initiative today!

Molson Coors Canada is proud to be the title sponsor for the 2nd annual Toronto Chair Aware Challenge.  What is Chair Aware? A challenge that asks you to spend an entire day in a wheelchair to raise money and awareness for Muscular Dystrophy Canada, an organization that provides essential services and funds research for cures and therapies for neuromuscular disorders that affect 50,000 Canadians.

In addition to supporting Chair Aware as a sponsor, we’ll also have a team participating in the challenge at our Toronto Office.

Want to get involved?

You’re invited to the LAUNCH EVENT!!

  • This Monday, May 17th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., we’re hosting the Chair Aware kick off right here at our office (a.k.a. brewery!) in front of our Retail Beer Store (33 Carlingview Drive, Toronto, ON M9W 5E4)
  • Broadcasting live from Molson Coors in wheelchairs, John Tory (of the Live Drive on Newstalk 1010) will host the kick off event with former Mayor of Toronto Mel Lastman.  Anthony Farnell, Meteorologist for the News Hour and News Hour Final on Global Toronto will also be joining Mel and John.
  • Rickard’s Beer and Broil King will be serving up some delicious BBQ eats and have provided amazing BBQ prizing for those who join us on site.

Important note! Molson Coors might even have a little something extra for the first 100 folks to drop in and show their support on Monday….Let’s just say it will help you kick off the upcoming long weekend :)

If you can’t drop by, but would still like to support Chair Aware:

Hope to see you on Monday!

Cheers, MolsonTonia

The Molson Community Award in Memory of Mary Knowles – 2010 Nominations now Open

Molson Community Award in Memory of Mary Knowles

Me (MolsonTonia) with 2009 Recipient, Mike Williscraft (Grimsby Lincoln News and Niagara this Week)

Nominations are now open for the 2010 Molson Community Award in Memory of Mary Knowles. This award was created by the charitable division of the Ontario Community Newspapers Foundation (OCNA) and is sponsored by Molson Coors Canada. Since 1996, we have been recognizing the personal contributions of individuals who are committed to the growth and development of their communities as well as the connection community newspapers have with their communities.

Mary Knowles was a dedicated newspaper person, and active community member who died from breast cancer in November of 1996.

Do you know someone deserving? Nominations are being accepted until Friday, February 26, 2010. This year’s recipient will be announced in March 2010, and the award will be presented on May 14 at OCNA’s Better Newspaper Awards Gala at the Sheraton Centre in downtown Toronto.  (My blog post from last year’s event)
