We’re going dark…are you?

This Saturday March 26, 2011 at 8:30 p.m. (local time), we will be participating in Earth Hour for our foruth year!

At 8:30 p.m., Molson Coors offices in Canada, the U.S. and the UK will turn off all non-essential lighting for one hour, and our breweries across Canada will shut down external signage and supplementary lights.

We’ll be joining hundreds of millions of people across the world who are switching off lights to pledge their support for the planet. In 2010, a record 128 countries joined the display of climate action, including iconic buildings and landmarks from Asia Pacific to Europe and Africa to the Americas.

We are excited about Earth Hour and hope you are as well. How will you be spending your hour in the dark? Cheers!

Molson Coors Brewing Company sponsors CDP Water Disclosure Report

Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) released its first Water Disclosure Report on the world’s largest companies today, Molson Coors Brewing Company included.

In partnership with Molson Coors (we’re the lead sponsor of the report), the CDP hopes to shed some light on the issue of water use and other water-related business issues (the report was built from the questionnaire results of 147 respondents).  Working with the CDP is a part of Molson Coors’ long history of commitment to clean water and water sustainability.  We have over 350 years of combined brewery heritage in the US, Canada and the UK that has enabled us to develop and implement real-world solutions for water use and conservation in our breweries and watersheds.

Take a look at some of the survey results:

  • Almost 40% of companies are already experiencing detrimental impacts relating to water, including disruptions to operations.
  • Just 53% of companies are able to identify whether they are exposed to water risks in their supply chains, as opposed to the high levels of awareness (96%) of water risks in their own operations.
  • Companies reporting the greatest exposure to water risks include food, beverage & tobacco and metals & mining.

So why does this matter to Molson Coors? We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again — Water is the most important ingredient in beer, and we think everyone should have access to water as clean and fresh as we use to brew our beers.  The quality of our beer is directly tied to the quality of the water we use to produce it. We’re committed to sharing that expertise and learning from others how to do that even better!

The launch event of CDP Water Disclosure’s first report occurred this morning at Bloomberg’s offices in London.  Greg Wade, our Chief Supply Chain Officer was there speaking on a panel – media release

Love to hear your thoughts on the report.  We recently completed a Water Stewardship Month of Action here at Molson Coors Canada, which resulted in our employees pledging to save 2.6 million litres of water/month…top of mind for us as we take our commitment to water and world class responsibility one step further.

Cheers and happy Friday!
