On November 19th, I had the opportunity to check out the 15th annual Hockey for the Homeless tournament at Angus Glen Community Centre in Markham, ON. The purpose of the tournament is to bring community members out for a good old game of hockey and to raise funds for the homeless while doing it.
Each year, organizers of Hockey for the Homeless bring along surprise NHL alum to play on each of the 10 teams. This year, the tournament was graced by players like Mike Gartner and Mark Osborne. Teams were definitely excited to have the opportunity to play some puck with Mike and Mark. The games ran all day long, and players indulged in some fine Molson product afterwards, followed by a dinner reception at Angus Glen Country Club.
The money raised from the tournament is to benefit the homeless in Toronto. The money is allocated to different programs to those living without shelter, and those who are in transition. Molson Coors was proud to play our part as a corporate sponsor this year, donating $2,500 to the cause. Cheers to everyone who came out to play puck and raise money for an important cause! Be sure to check out the videos below.
Team Toronto MOlson MOs wrapped up their 2010 Movember campaign with a cold beer and awarding of the official Man of MOvember and MOSista of Movember this week. Congrats to Connor Higgins (centre) and Annelise Renner (in search of a pic).
The Toronto crew raised over $5,000 towards Prostate Cancer research this year….with more funds to roll in thanks to Molson Coors Canada’s matching donations program.
December has begun, which means the epic ‘stashes have been removed (whew… ). Great job everyone!
Food security suddenly got a lot more exciting….today, in the spirit of the holidays, Molson Coors Canada in partnership with Firkin Pubs and Meal Exchange will be raising a pint in an effort to raise food security awareness across Ontario. The best part? Each time you purchase a pint of Molson Canadian or those of you with a palate for lighter beers, Molson Canadian 67, $0.25 will be donated to student-led Meal Exchange by both Molson Coors Canada and the Firkin. Pretty good additive to happy hour at your local Firkin Pub if I do say so myself!
This program isn’t new to us here at Molson Coors Canada, actually…this will be the 6th year we have partnered with Firkin Pubs to raise awareness for important causes. We have an audacious goal of $15,000 which will be donated to Meal Exchange, and thanks to our fans out there, this shouldn’t be a problem.
If you’re wondering how we plan to raise food security awareness, student volunteers from Meal Exchange will be visiting the participating Firkin pubs throughout the campaign, running food security education sessions for the Firkin staff.
With our annual United Way campaign now over, I can proudly cover some highlights of the campaign and how Molson Coors helped out in a big way this year!
To date, we have raised $550,000 including our corporate match…pretty sweet, eh? As an added incentive (although I don’t think one was needed, since we have a generous team as is) employees who pledged more than $100 were entered to win our national prize: a trip for two to the Grey Cup! Not too shabby, right? We also gave away four iPads for our regional draws.
The really great thing about our Toronto UW campaign is that it gives us an extra opportunity to plan internal events. We had two pubnights which boasted delicious food care of St. Louis Bar and Grill and Lone Star Cafe. Most importantly, we got our awesome team together for after work beers and socializing in support of a good cause.
The West hosted galas in Edmonton on November 4th, and Calgary November 16th, but what would a Molson Coors gala be without a special guest or two? The Calgary gala featured an appearance by Calgary Flames assistant GM JayFeaster, who gave a “state of the union” address and fielded questions from the audience. Cheers to the team out West for putting together two exquisite galas!
We look forward to planning our 2011 United Way Campaign in the coming months, and each year we aim to raise more money and more awareness of the importance in donating to United Way. Big thanks to Gordon Shand and Toby Goldberg, our sponsored employee for all of their help and dedication in getting this campaign up and running. Great work everyone, I’m so happy I got to participate this year…can’t wait for the next! Be sure to check out some of the campaign pics below…
