Our Beer Print in action

We’ve always known that being a great beer company involves more than just brewing. In that tradition, we couldn’t be more proud of the employees who volunteered in celebration of Our Beer Print.

Molson Coors Supply Chain TeamProject Homeless Connect

That’s a whole lotta noodles!
Members of the Denver Supply Chain team took home cooking to heart while spending an afternoon volunteering at The Gathering Place. Working together, the team chose their own menu (spaghetti), shopped for the food, cooked and served the meal to more than 200 women, children and transgender individuals experiencing homelessness and poverty.

Connecting with the community
More than 20 Molson Coors employees helped to connect homeless people with health, social and economic resources at Project Homeless Connect. The annual resource fair is supported by more than 40 organizations and provides access to basic necessities and service. Onsite at the event, our team provided a variety of assistance ranging from navigating the event to coordinating lunches.

We also played a key support role before the event volunteering time and muscled to set-up the Convention Centre to host more than 1,400 attendees.

Golden Great Water Month
To wrap-up volunteer activities, four Molson Coors employees and their family members teamed up with 40 teammates from MillerCoors to get down and dirty as they spent their Saturday working to improve the Clear Creek Watershed.

Volunteers spent the day loosening the soil, applying more soil, seeding and covering the new area with a straw blanket to prevent erosion.

Bringing clean drinking water to Bihar

Our brewery in India is located in the state of Bihar, home to more than 100 million people. Once prosperous, Bihar is now battling issues such as illiteracy, inadequate access to safe drinking water and poor sanitation coverage. Surveys show that only 14% of households have access to a toilet facility and only 8% of Bihar’s 290 schools have water and sanitation resources.

We wanted to improve Our Beer Print and make an impact in our local community, so our team in India partnered with Water For People to build a fresh water well down the street from our brewery. The new well opened last month and will serve 500 families with safe drinking water. Our team also built a new toilet block and hand washing facility at the local school, which is helping to improve attendance.

We are very proud to be part of this project which will save lives, improve education and reduce the number of people suffering from water and sanitation-related diseases.

What is Water For People?

Water For People looks for creative, sustainable ways to help communities build and maintain their own reliable, safe water systems. Our project is a small part of their Everyone Forever Program, which has some audacious objectives:

  • Increase water supply coverage from 57% to 100% (over 4 years)
  • Increase water and sanitation coverage in schools from 8% to 100%
  • Encourage hygiene behavior change through education

Give’R on the Water

For almost 10 years, our team in Atlantic Canada has been committed to “Give’R”, a community fundraiser that’s tagged “The Best Friday of Every Month, the Last Friday of Every Month.”

Give-R_1

For each Give’R event, a local charity or community group is selected as beneficiary, a local bar secured to host, and one of our products is selected to be sampled. Guests pay a small cover fee which goes directly to the charity, and as thanks, we provide the first sample as people arrive. The event is run in conjunction with one of our major radio partners, who send one of their on-air DJ’s to host the event.

Thus far in 2013, the Give’R events hosted across the Atlantic have raised more than $16,000 for local charities, highlighted by the August Give’R in Nova Scotia, a signature event each summer that takes place out at sea on the Tall Ship Silva – one of Halifax’s most recognizable sailboats.

Final August Tally:

  • 150 guests
  • $1,250 raised in 50/50 draw (with the winner donating back half)
  • $2,000 to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
  • 1 best night all Summer

Celebrating Safe and Sound

This year, our Nova Scotia team partnered with the city of Halifax on both of their marquee long weekend events for Canada Day and Natal Day.

Each concert sees thousands of people show up to the Dartmouth waterfront, and while the location is ideal for hosting a concert, it doesn’t have an abundance of parking or access for those trying to get in from various locations across the city. Enter Molson Coors’ Responsible Drinking program:

Halifax-Ferry

This Natal Day, our Responsible Drinking team piloted a program with the city’s Metro Transit division, making the Halifax-Dartmouth Ferry Service free on the day of the event. Starting at 6am, and continuing on until 1:30am the following morning, anyone could access the ferry free-of-charge AND get a transfer to continue by bus the rest of the way home.

In all, the city estimates that approximately 11,000 people took part in the complimentary service!

Our Beer Print successes keep on coming!

Following on the heels of our success in being named Global Beverage Sector Leader on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI), Molson Coors learned that the good news about Our Beer Print just keeps on coming.

Yesterday, Molson Coors was named as a company leading on climate change transparency with regard to the quality of climate change data we share through CDP, the world’s only global environmental disclosure system.

Climate Disclosure Leader 2013

For the third year, Molson Coors has achieved a position of leadership in CDP’s S&P 500 Climate Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI). This is an honor that further recognizes Molson Coors for our world class Corporate Responsibility and shows we are shrinking our negative Beer Print. Recognition of CDP Disclosure Leadership also demonstrates our focus on improving systems and transparency throughout our supply chain, driving results in efficiency and sustainability.

“We’re proud to be included in the Climate Disclosure Leadership Index, which underscores the priority we place on driving sustainability and letting our shareholders and stakeholders know how we’re doing,” said Peter Swinburn, Molson Coors President and CEO. “Increasingly, we realize the importance our positive Beer Print matters to our retail customers and brand consumers.”
