Chapman Mills Pedestrian Bridge Nearing Completion

Last year through Molson Coors Community Cheer, the Rideau Valley Conservation Foundation received a $30,000 grant to help build a new pedestrian bridge across an inlet of the Rideau River.

With a few more tweaks, this 35-metre bridge will be available for public use and complete a hiking trail network in one of the busiest conservation trails in Ottawa. “The community now has a permanent pedestrian link to the 12 km network of lovely forest, wetland and field trails right in the middle of the burgeoning southern Ottawa area,” says Charles Billington, Executive Director of RVCF.

The bridge was delivered on March 6th in two pieces with a lot of work still to be done. One of the nearby streets had to be closed for a few hours in the night for specialists to reassemble it. Then just after midnight, the new bridge was swung into place with a giant crane.

“As much as this project was out of our comfort zone, it was the best example of collaboration I have ever experienced. Everybody took their part and did a bang up job,” said Kristy Giles, Conservation Lands Manager for RVCA.

This is a shining example of what we can accomplish when we all come together with a common goal to build a positive community. Kyle Robertson, Sales Representative at Molson Coors, is just one of many who are looking forward to traversing on the new bridge: “Being a dog owner and active community supporter, this project is a very exciting one. Not only does it allow for permanent exposure to the beautiful sights and sounds around the Rideau, but it helps promote more active lifestyles in the community which is incredibly important.”

Charles Billington also sent his thanks to the team at Molson Coors and the 250 people who cheered for the project during “Cheering Phase” that took place early last year. “We are delighted with the result and I hope you can share our pride in bringing this amazing new feature to the outdoor walking facilities in the area.”

$1-million in taxi fares for Torontonians this holiday

‘Tis the season to be giving, and we’re excited to announce that Molson Coors Canada has teamed up with Hailo to give Torontonians $1,000,000 in Hailo cab fares from now until January 9th!

Together, we want to help make this holiday season the safest yet in one of the busiest cities in Canada by helping people get home safely. We will be distributing $10 vouchers for Hailo taxi fares at 100 restaurants and bars across the city.

Recently launched in Toronto, Hailo is an app-based taxi service that connects users to the nearest cab with two taps on your smartphone. With a current fleet of over 600 cabs (and counting) registered in the Hailo network, you can hail a cab and be on your way safely in a few short minutes.

So be sure to plan ahead for rides home this season and let us know what you’re up to this holiday by tweeting with the hashtag #OneMillionHailos!

Cheers to a safe and joyous holiday!

Encouraging responsible choices and connecting with digital women

This past weekend was an eventful one for me; my feet are still hurting but it was worth it! I had the opportunity to connect with many very influential digital women at the 2012 She’s Connected Conference in Toronto, and attended the Ryerson Rams Men’s Hockey home opener for the launch of our new responsible drinking program at the Mattamy Athletic Centre.

Friday night, we kicked off the ‘Responsible Ram of the Night’ program where fans have the chance to win a prize pack during men’s and women’s OUA hockey games held at Mattamy AC. The goal of this new initiative is to drive awareness and encourage responsible choices at the athletic centre and on campus.

It was a sold out game and the crowd was pumped all night despite the Rams’ 5-3 loss to the Queen’s Gaels. We awarded our first ever Responsible Ram of the Night in the third period with a sweet prize pack consisting of gas cards, TAXIGUY dollars and other Molson Canadian goodies. Just check out how happy the winner Jay looked!

Earlier that day, @MolsonTonia and I were at Day 1 of the She’s Connected Conference chatting about social media with an enthusiastic group of digitally inclined women. We had our very own Molson Canadian 67 Social Lounge where we sampled our beers, erected a green screen photo booth, and held several beer and cheese pairing sessions during the two-day conference.

The beer and cheese sessions were a hit. The ladies loved it and they all walked away with a little more knowledge about beer thanks to our Beer Reverence Team. We even turned quite a few non-fans of beer onto Molson Canadian 67 Sublime!

All in all, it was an awesome (but very tiring) weekend! Here’s to the next one!

Cheers,

Employees giving the St. John’s community some TLC

On October 10, 2012, the Molson Coors St. John’s Brewery held its annual Volunteer Day. With the brewery closed in order to perform electrical sub-station upgrades, more than 60 employees took advantage of the downtime to give back to the community.

Shelley Hickey took the lead role in working with the City of St. John’s to come up with an effective action plan. After tropical storm Leslie, which hit the island back in September, there was a need to extensively reclaim and repair several local parks, walking trails and riverside areas. In addition, the brewery wanted to build on the Molson Canadian Red Leaf Project, whereby several employees planted trees along the nearby, historic Rennie’s River.

With tools, safety vests, garbage bags and the usual Molson Coors St. John’s can-do attitude, the team went to work. In only a few short hours, several large piles of fallen trees and debris were gathered, flower gardens were cleaned, 450 seedlings were planted and a local park and walking area looked like new. The team finished the day with a neighbourhood walkabout, whereby 60 bags of garbage were collected from the streets around the brewery known as Georgestown.

A great day was had by all as the employees of Molson Coors St. John’s once again showed how important our community is to us and how giving back is fundamental to how we do business! As icing on the cake, the brewery was publicly acknowledged by the Mayor of St. John’s on a live television broadcast of the weekly City Council meeting.

“Molson staff did a great job and accomplished a great deal of work…It was great to see the business community giving back to the city,” said Mayor Dennis O’Keefe.

Cheers!

Peur des hauteurs? Certainement pas Habitat pour l’humanité!

Habitat-9

Yannick Perreault (1990) - Jocelyn Thibault (1993) – Daniel Brière (1995) – Marc Denis (1996) - Mathieu Darche (1999)
