Ultimate Day 004

Sarah Burden (left, contest winner) and Sam Brooks

This blog is a little different than the other ones I’ve written…that’s because I am writing at 35,000 feet and flying over Northern Ontario!  I’m en route back to Toronto after hosting our Ultimate Day winner Sarah Burden and her best friend Sam Brooks in beautiful Vancouver.

For those of you unfamiliar with the Ultimate Day contest I’ll catch you up to speed: we were looking for the best video made by post-secondary students about the importance of responsible drinking.  The winner was to receive lunch and shopping in Toronto and then jet set on over to the west in time to catch the Gorillaz concert in Vancouver all in one day.  Not one detail was missing to make this the ultimate day…stretch limos, all expenses paid and $1000 credit card to swipe around town.  Read on for the details!

The day began at 6am in Halifax, where the girls were greeted by Tony McCarthy who is one of our reps in the Maritimes.  He drove the girls to the airport, made sure they were fed and that they got all their (empty) bags checked for their flight to Toronto.  Upon Sarah and Sam’s arrival in Toronto, Carole Berry and I were anxiously awaiting at Pearson, watching for the girls to come out of the baggage claim area.  First stop: CN Tower, the girls couldn’t get over how big the CN Tower was, and snapped a few quick pictures before heading to Holt Renfrew.

When we go to Holt Renfrew, we had the luxury of being greeted by a personal shopper who hand- picked some jewelry and leather jackets as per Sarah’s request.  We enjoyed the private shopping suite, tried on the jackets and jewels and Sarah made her first purchase: a necklace! Afterwards, we hopped back into the limo and headed to the airport to catch our flight to Vancouver.

We had some awesome plans in place upon our arrival in Vancouver: dinner at the Society Glowbal and then the Gorillaz concert.   The night didn’t end there though…Sarah and Sam weren’t quite ready for bed, instead they wanted to check out Vancouver nightlife, so we did just that!  After having a social beer, the girls decided they needed their beauty rest for a full day of shopping on Robson Street and a trip to the Vancouver Aquarium.

I’d have to say that the highlight of the trip was the Vancouver Aquarium.  Sarah and Sam loved it, and were over the moon when they finally got to see the belugas.  Such an awesome spot (the jellyfish aquarium was mesmerizing), with tons of rare, exotic aquatic life to check out.

Finally, post-aquarium and shopping for an entire day, the girls headed to the airport and said goodbye to Vancouver.  They definitely were sad to leave, since we all had such an amazing time but they now know Vancouver and Toronto are both spots they’d love to revisit.   As for myself, I’m glad I was able to host Sarah and Sam, and share in the excitement of their “Ultimate Day” experience.  It was great meeting them, and offering up some shopping (my favourite pastime) advice!   Check out the pictures below, and remember: today is brought to you by last night’s choices.  Cheers!

  1. That is a fantastic detail of events, Lindsay.
It’s great to acknowledge those who respect the importance of responsible choices. The girls looked like they enjoyed their experience, and you played the part of the perfect host on behalf of MolsonCoors. Great job!
