L-R: Paul Lipson, Rickard’s brand, Adam Spence, Ontario Association of Food Banks, Traci Shepheard, Molson Coors Canada
Last week we launched the 5th annual Raise a Pint of Glory Campaign with the Firkin Group in support of the Ontario Association of Food Banks (OAFB). We kicked off the five week campaign at the Owl and Firkin in Markham, ON, with representatives from the three campaign partners.
Raise a Pint of Glory is a wonderful opportunity for pub patrons to support Ontario’s food banks by purchasing a pint of Rickard’s. For every pint ‘raised’, both the Firkin Group and Molson Coors Canada will donate $0.25 to the OAFB with a goal of $20,000. Guests may also make non-perishable food donations at the 28 participating Firkin locations in Ontario.
Adam Spence, Executive Director of the OAFB noted that this has been one of the most difficult years on record for Ontario’s food banks. 375,000 people are forced to turn to food banks each month, and the majority of food banks rely on the generosity of community members during the fall and winter holiday seasons to keep food on their shelves throughout the year.
This is a really important campaign, so to help encourage folks to get out there and raise a pint, I’ll be prizing a $50.00 gift certificate to Firkin Pubs (thank you Firkin friends!) and Rickard’s beer merchandise one a week for the next four weeks.
CONTEST DETAILS – Week One
To enter for your chance to win a $50 Firkin Pub Gift Certificate this week (starting today, Monday, Nov. 30th), leave a comment on the blog telling us about how YOU raised a pint to support the OAFB or re-tweet this post on twitter including this link: http://bit.ly/65GbCa and @MolsonTonia. I’ll draw the winner on Sunday afternoon (December 6th). Note: You must be legal drinking age to participate, no purchase necessary.
As the Firkin folks say… You’ll have a good Firkin time for a great Firkin cause…..thanks for supporting the Ontario Association of Food Banks.
Cheers!

The month of November is quickly coming to an end which signifies the end of Movember. This also means the end to all the extra moustaches that you may have spotted out and about (well that’s if those who have grown one haven’t become too comfortable with it).
Movember is an annual, month-long fundraising event that encourages Mo Bros and Mo Sistas (a Movember participant, male or female) to grow a moustache or support someone who is growing one to raise money for Prostate Cancer Research in Canada.
Prostate Cancer will claim the lives of 4,440 men in Canada this year with another 25,000 (1 in 6) being diagnosed with it. The good news is that over 90% of prostate cancer causes are curable if detected and treated in their earliest stages and that’s why many of the Mo Bro’s at Molson Coors Canada have decided to participate in fundraising or simply showing support by growing a moustache. Our employees participating in Movember have generated over $5,000 toward Prostate Cancer research which is being matched by Molson Coors Canada’s Donations Fund.
Let’s support this great cause and those having fun with Movember! We would love your support! Find our donation sites: Mike Coletta, Matt Grahlman, Peter Bombaci
Cheers,
Mike

To follow up on my previous United Way blog post, Molson Coors Canada’s 2009 United Way campaign has come to a close, and after two weeks of donations, events, guest speakers and volunteering, I am THRILLED to announce that our employees stepped up to the challenge and donated/raised an AMAZING $640,000! (increase over last year by 5%!) This is an incredible result that shows just how passionate and committed Molson employees are to the communities that we work and live in.
Thank you to everyone who donated to our campaign (dollars and in-kind) and to this year’s United Way Committee – you guys rocked it. Congratulations on a successful campaign.
How about you? Do you have a United Way Campaign at your work or business? Do you participate?
Below are some photos from a fundraising pub night in Toronto

Two for the Show – Fantastic duo who donated their time for our campaign – thank you!

Also thanks to Darryl Sittler who joined us for the night

Last week was the Molson/National Mentoring Program cohort 2 wrap up lunch with special guests Senator Mercer and Ferg Devins, Chief Public Affairs Officer at Molson Coors Canada. Thanks to Queen’s University student Emily Dimytosh for writing this guest post. Cheers! MolsonTonia

The professors that require National Mentoring Program Students to write the classic “How I spent my summer vacation” essay are in for quite the surprise.
From coordinating junior trade missions to South America to managing art shows and silent auctions, from drafting Board of Directors education packages to crafting marketing plans to increase volunteering, NMP Students’ summer jobs were anything but ordinary.
On Friday, November 6th, 2009 students were joined by their mentors, charities, Molson Coors Chief Public Affairs Officer Ferg Devins, and Senator Mercer to celebrate the end of the second cohort of Molson’s National Mentoring Program. This time last year, the 20 students from Wilfred Laurier University, Queen’s School of Business, University of Toronto, Dalhousie University, and University of Alberta were each paired with a mentor from Molson Coors and partnered with a Canadian charity. Over the summer, students worked with their charity under the guidance of their mentor to solve a variety of business problems.
Senator Mercer shared his experience with mentoring, and congratulated the students on their accomplishments. Mr. Devins shared the history of the National Mentoring Program, and presented each student with an Award of Distinction. Following the awards presentation, students were able to share their summer adventures in corporate and non-profit partnerships.
On behalf of the National Mentoring Program students, I would like to thank all of the charities for opening their doors to us and the Molson Mentors for helping us through them. I would also like to NMP Founder Mary Donohue and Molson Coors for affording us this experience – it was truly the summer job of a lifetime!
Emily.
