92nd Anniversary of Vimy RidgeShare Tweet
Today is the 92nd anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge, and along with fellow Canadians, Molson is honouring the brave soldiers whose courage and sacrifices won’t be forgotten. The pin (above) was created by the Vimy Foundation to commemorate Canada’s momentous victory at Vimy Ridge on April 9th, 1917 – the four colours representing the four Canadian Divisions who fought together for the first time. Red – First Division, Blue – Second Division, Grey-Blue – Third Division, Green – Fourth Division. The order of the colours reflects the positioning of the four Divisions facing the German defenses on the day of the battle.
Raising a glass to the heroes who served and are serving.
“On April 9, 1917, the Canadians did what other allied forces had so far failed to do – they took Vimy Ridge. At Vimy, regiments from coast to coast saw action together in a distinctly Canadian triumph, helping create a new and stronger sense of Canadian identity. After Vimy, the Canadian corps never looked back, and its success raised our international stature and earned us a separate signature on the Treaty of Versailles that ended the war.”
