Thought I’d share some photos and video from Earth Hour at Molson. Coast to coast to coast, our breweries shut off all non-essential lights from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. What did you end up doing during Earth Hour on Saturday night?
Molson Earth Hour Task Force – Toronto

Molson Employees in Toronto were asked to fill out an Earth Hour checklist before they left the office on Friday afternoon.

Sebastien filled out his checklist and got a thumbs up from the task force.

I stopped in at WWF last week and interviewed Tara Wood, PR Manager at WWF Canada – she talks about how social media has made a big impact on this year’s campaign.

Earth Hour is only a few days away, and we’re pretty much good to go at Molson. We’ve got our Earth Hour task force ready to power down the office; we’ve planned a cold picnic lunch for tomorrow; and our breweries across Canada will be turning off all non-essential lights – we’re set!
What now? Well, Molson wants to know how you plan to spend YOUR Earth Hour!
Some suggestions

Dylan, Daniel, Noah with Molson employees Gary Moore and Mike Butts
Took a little road trip last week to London, Ontario to visit three students from the Richard Ivey School of Business who were spending the whole week outside. The students, Dylan Haggart, Noah Goldstein and Daniel Sliwin, were participating in a national fundraising initiative called 5 Days for the Homeless - students across Canada sacrifice basic necessities to raise awareness and money for youth homelessness in their communities.
Daniel contacted Molson a few weeks ago to see if we wanted to get involved in their campaign. We were able to contribute to their efforts with a $4,000 donation which will go directly to support Street Connection, an organization that provides referrals, guidance, support, warm meals and counseling services for street youth in London.

Where the boys ‘lived’ for the week
Local Molson employees Mike Butts, Gary Moore and I stopped in at the University of Western’s Community Centre to see the students on their last day. I was SO impressed! Not only were they in great spirits (I don’t know if I would be after sleeping in the snow), but they raised tons of extra funds and awareness.
I did a quick interview with Daniel about the week:

Check out real experience stories from Dylan and Noah and the other students across Canada
Proud to play our part. Cheers.

Sure shinny hockey rules, but are there RULES?
No raising the puck, no slap shots, no cherry picking… and no hot dogging! As informal as shinny can be, everyone has their own rules. As part of our ‘Shinny Rules’ series we asked Canadians about the rules they play by. Turns out the basics stay the same, but everyone has their own take.
So, what are your rules? After our first video, Justin on the Molson Canadian Facebook page let us know that dumping the puck and icing are no-nos where he plays. We’d love to know how you pick teams, what rules you love or hate the most, or any rules that you think make the game better.
Here’s part two of our Shinny Rules Series about the Rules of the game. Share your stories, pics and vids back here and tag it #shinny so we can find it!

We think hockey is a great Canadian community builder. And while we’ve got tons of great partnerships within professional hockey, for us, shinny is what gets us closest to the core of Canada’s game.
Considering Molson’s long history of supporting hockey, we wanted to explore the history, rules and rituals around the grassroots game. So we’ve made three videos – one for each topic. We will be posting them each week and having some conversation around each subject.
Now that we’ve talked to shinny players, what about all of you?
- What do you know about the history of the game and what’s your history with shinny?
- Everybody has their own rules it seems – what are yours? Which do you like/hate?
- What rituals do you have before, during and after a shinny game? (Personally I like to rip a slapper top shelf – or mid shelf in my case – before the game starts to get me into it).
Share your stories, pics and vids back here and tag it #shinny so we can find it!
